Just a quick Howie update as the mascot racing season has now begun. On Sunday Howie took part in the Children's Trust Mascot Champion Hurdle Race at Plumpton Racecourse. The race was made up of about 13 mascots over approx 100m with one small jum in the middle. Howie finished 2nd, just pipped to the post by Ollie the Otter from Southern Water and just ahead of Ollie the Owl from Eastbourne Borough FC in a photo finish.
Not sure if the following photos will come out as I have linked them from Facebook. I have added a link to the Facebook photo albums in case people can access these.
The first photo is of Howie receiving his prize from Grand National winning jockey, Liam Treadwell, who also started the race. And before you ask, no I didn't ask to see his teeth!
The above photos were taken by David Bauckham who you may remember was jointly responsible for the excellent recent book 'A Season of Sussex Soccer'.
He was there following the Eastbourne Borough mascot and kindly took some photos of me as well so many thanks to him.
His Facebook mascot race album is here
The below were taken by Pete & Alice the Eagle's followers so many thanks to them as well and that album is here
All in all a great day out and plenty of entertaining the public before and after the serious business of the race itself.
There are a couple more events coming up which Howie will hopefully be able to make. These are the British Egg & Spoon Dash at Fontwell Racecourse on
Sunday 24th May and The Mascot Derby at Lingfield Racecourse on Saturday 27th June.
