I think a number of the comments on hear make interesting reading, I am concerned that if the club do not attract more supporters now that we are back in the town, how long will they be able to keep a good team together?

It makes you wonder where last seasons absent fans went on match days, did they support another club or are they just biding their time awaiting the return of the Hornets? Chances are, we will not know the answer to this until the season gets underway, its a real...

Only 199 fans to go - my Horsham exile (exile from the town in general and not the football) comes to an end this summer, so i'll be there week in and out, covered stands or not. And i'll be bringing the boy along as soon as he's able to appreciate it.

Interesting to consider recent HFC average league-only home attendances:

2004/05: Div 1: 380
2005/06: Div 1: 389
2006/07: Prem: 474
2007/08: Prem: 537 - the cup run season
2008/09: Worthing

Season-on-season, the cup run added 53 to the average.

Perhaps the more significant factors relating to the attendance increase in recent years are (a) success - being in or very close to the play-off places (b) the increasing popularity of non-league...

Just to say that neither of the two temporary stands are in their final location yet. The plan is they will both be located opposite the the main stand. It wasn't necessary for Ryman approval to have them in their final locations and we wanted the ground to dry out before we move them over the summer so as to not damage the pitch.

I would like to think we can create an atmosphere at least as good as that for the last YM game of the season when Hornets supporters were the...

I certainly believe we can get the crowds up from last season, but I agree with Pete that GM is a poor place to enjoy your football. The advantage is the decent clubhouse, but not allowing people to park will have a bad effect.

The point I was trying to make had nothing to do with Lardyism and the order in which I had put the points had no intention. The point I was attempting to make is that GM isn't a great place to stand and watch football and I believe that does matter to people.

Certain grounds have a buzz about them. I always got that at QS and regularly ge that at other grounds. I have never got that at GM. Perhaps it is just me, and I am entiltled to that opinion. I just worry that many are...

No, i agree with the long-nosed fellow proceeding this. IMO, too many people are still standing on the port (carrying on with the nautical theme) of 'Glory-hunters'. They missed the boat last season by choice. It is a shame though....

Interesting thoughts. Not sure I agree with the order though BB. The atmosphere & quality/style of football would top my list. If you achieve that, I don't think it matters too much about the facilities (within reason of course).

However, one thing seems to be missing from your list of requirements, the location. Getting back to Horsham is one thing, but to the heart of the town centre is another, and that is where every football club belongs. The average...

With such limited terracing, GM is certainly inferior to QS is in its Lardy-friendly options, but in what other ways do you find it inferior to QS?

There will certainly be an issue at GM with the temporary stands when it's raining (Erith?) and - if I understand correctly - there won't be any on site parking but, to be honest, I'd have thought the clubhouse facilities and seating options make it more friendly to many,...

The only way you will get loads of people through the door in this day and age is to firstly provide the facilities, a ground with a great atmosphere and finally, entertaining football.

QS had all of those things (with the great football bit happening in the latter years). The only way to get masses through the gates is with a new ground. IMO, no amount of marketing is going to make Gorings Mead an attractive place. Don't get me wrong, many from both clubs have done tremendous...

If people had sense, would watch non league football week in week out. Why pay 25 - 30 quid a week when great footy for less than a tenner. Personally do not think any extra advertising will bring any more fans. Evevry interested is aware of Horsham potential already.

Current thoughts:

I would approach the WSCT and, if they were minded to organise another supplement, offer cooperation - 30,000 of those through Horsham and district letter boxes would be a start: Day in the life of a non-league star, the challenge of ground-sharing, the pleasure of being back in Horsham, purchasing and saving the Holbrook Club from developers, a community club owned by the community for the community, etc, etc.

I suggested to Hampshire Hornet that the club should market some HFC fob-watches!!! They would be a novelty gift that would be collectable and yet, people like me could use them!!!!! Woo!!! (I like beer!)

I have a few merchandising ideas in mind, including car stickers and air fresheners. Depending on what sort of support I get from the Club, I will probably be financing it myself like I did with the end of Queen Street merchandise. (All profit will be going to the Club though)

It's a thought Mr Titticaca. There was a free HFC supplement in the WSCT a couple of years ago. Not the clubs idea but if it made a few bob for the paper maybe they could be nudged into action again.

Would it be a good idea for the Club/HISC to produce a car sticker along the lines of 'Support the Hornets', 'Horsham FC's Back in Town!' or the old chestnut 'Don't follow me, follow HFC'?

A couple of hundred of those around town might generate renewed interest in the club to attract those 'missing' 200 supporters (and hopefully a few more newcomers).
